A THOUSAND YEARS IS LIKE A DAY

Psalm 37:7-8
7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.
8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret it only causes harm.

It's frustrating to be in a hurry when God isn't. He's never in a hurry! We read in the Bible, a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years like a day to God, (Psalm 90:4). He is not restrained by time. It is totally useless to try to speed up God, He controls time.

This past Saturday evening I was blessed to introduce two very special people to 300 others at a banquet.  They were our two hunters that I was privileged to take hunting at Two Hats Ranch last fall.  Isaac is a 13 year old boy who had never hunted, much less handled a gun prior to our time at the shooting range last summer and Dave is a Purple Heart recipient from the Vietnam war who has hunted all his life.

Isaac was blessed with a great buck the very first minutes of his hunt.  This was an amazing blessing as he was having trouble sitting still and being quite.  Dave on the other hand sat like a stone and rarely even whispered a word all day in the blind.  He knew what it takes to be successful on a hunt.

Because of some rifle issues Dave's hunt came to an end without a trophy.  He was disappointed and came to me and said, "Dean, I don't want this to end.  My wife and I have never been treated to anything like this in the our entire life." I explained to Dave that sometimes God allows us to be disappointed in some things in life because He has something far greater in store for us.  Of course that it far easier to say when it wasn't me that is being told to wait on the Lord.

Thirty minutes later Dave came to me and said, "I can't believe it, they asked my wife and I to come back and do this again, so I can get my buck." I explained that God knew all along that the two of them would be going back for a second blessing.  We just need to trust His timing.

At times, all of us worry when our plans are delayed. We get all worked up and stressed. We start complaining. We become uptight. When God delayed the Israelites journey from Egypt to the Promised Land, they reacted with complaints: "On the way the people lost their patience and spoke against God and Moses. They complained" (Numbers 21:4b-5a).

The Israelites' complaining and losing trust in their God were the sins that kept them out of the Promised Land. No matter what God did for them, they found something to complain about. When they didn't have water, God provided water. Then they didn't have  food, but when God provided tasty and sufficient food, they complained about the food they got. Isn't It easy to gripe and complain when we're forced to wait? We want to trust out timing instead of God's.  We don't mind waiting as long as we can complain about it.

Consider the Israelites and the blessings they either missed or the ones that were delayed for them.  All because they didn't trust God's timing. What are you missing out on in life because you have taken over the gas pedal from God?  Remember, God controls all of time.  He doesn't mind if something takes a day, a year or a decade.  He doesn't need your approval but He desires your heart to be totally devoted to trusting Him.

Don't miss the blessings, trust Him.
