Bring it to light
Numbers 32:23
But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the LORD, and be sure your sin will find you out.
Fall in the western mountains is a magical time. If you're an elk hunter you love the build up of elk activity. Early in the fall you might hear an occasional bugle call of a bull and you'll likely see a few cows and calves out grazing at daylight and dark, but the mature bulls will remain in the dark timber until long after dark.
Later, in late September, there will suddenly be a new bunch of bulls that will lose show up in the open meadows and make themselves susceptible to hunters. After having stayed nocturnal for 10-11 months they always out in the light.
There is a biblical truth that goes, whatever one seeks to hide and cover up will eventually work its way up to the light and become known, no matter how hard we try to hide it. The TV news has "shocking news" many evenings, of an unsolved crime from years past that is solved. Or we'll hear the news of someone that has been leading a secret double life. Those things thought hidden are brought out into the light.
In Genesis we read about Adam and Eve, when they committed the first sin, then tried to hide from God. They ran and tried to hide from the Lord but He came and found them. Then in chapter 4 we can read what happened after Cain killed Able and attempted to cover it up , God says to Cain, "Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground!" Even Abel's blood is shouting out this principle for us to understand. You cannot hide sin. It will surface sooner or later. What is done in the dark in secret will eventually come to light.
I don't write this to scare you. No, I write to encourage you to live a life pleasing to the Lord. I encourage you to confess hidden sins and walk... no run away from the patterns that you might be living.
There is nothing hidden from sight of God. We aren't getting away with anything and yet we live as though we are. Hiding is of no use.
Luke 8:17 reinforces this thought.
17 For nothing is hidden that will not become evident, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light.
We have a loving and gracious God. Go to Him and lay before Him those things you've been keeping in the dark. The longer you hold them, the harder it will be.
Bring it to light.
