END OF CONSTRUCTION

Philippians 1:6
For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will complete it by the day of Christ Jesus.

If you've ever been blessed to go on an out of state hunting trip you'll understand the excitement of the journey itself.  I have been on countless hunting and guiding trips in my life and for each one the journey of getting there has added so much to the experience.

As we travel across the country to get to where we are going it is rare not to be postponed by multiple road construction projects.  With anticipation high, these construction delays can be frustrating but necessary.  Without road construction our ultimate journey would be much harder... yes, it might slow us down today, but imagine if the roads weren't kept up and how that would affect the journey.

Ruth Graham and her husband evangelist Billy Graham, were driving one day along a highway through a construction site, and there were miles of detours and caution signs and equipment everywhere.  It was a long and frustrating delay that had slowed their progress.  They finally came to the finished road work and this final sign read, "End of construction. Thank you for your patience."

It was then that Ruth told Billy, "That's what I want on my gravestone."
"End of Construction. Thank you for your patience."

Life is a journey, some journeys last 100+ years and others last much less.  But from your birth date to the day they write your obituary, you are on a journey and sadly many of us have our construction zones end long before the journey ends.

I hope that my life is under construction until the day that they write my obituary and I hope that my obituary includes, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day. (2 Timothy 4:7-8a)

Yes we're all on a journey and we should never end the construction that is there to build us into what God wants us to be.  We will face detours, some of our own doing and some that God will put us through to build and grow us.

May our construction zone end when we inhale our last breath.
