GREATER IS HE
2 Kings 6:16-17
"He said, 'Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.' "Then Elisha prayed and said, 'O LORD, please open his eyes that he may see.' So the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha."
We had a quick four or five hours to get out to Red lake and get back to the lodge before dark. From the air we saw grizzly bears all over the mountains and in the valleys, more than I had ever seen before. When we landed on the lake we could see a big male bear fishing along the shore. He was in the water right where we wanted to pull up to shore. We waited just off shore until he got nervous and started up the mountain. As he got about half way up a big blacktail buck came out of the brush and watched him pass.
When that bear finally cleared the mountain I started up towards the buck we had seen, who had now gone back into the brush. As I got within 100 yards of the patch of sumac brush I felt the wind change direction and the buck came running out of the brush. My first shot was rushed and missed... a quick follow up shot put him down.
My partner and I quickly grabbed the buck and started dragging towards the lake and the plane. When we got to shoreline we took a few quick photos and started skinning and quartering to get him in the plane. As we were washing our hands, when we finished, we looked down the shore and saw a sow grizzly coming our way, her nose in the air. She could smell the blood and was coming looking for a free meal. She was only 100 yards away and when she was looking directly at us the two of us stood up raised our hands in the air and yelled as loud as we could. The bear hadn't seen us before that point and we shocked her a little. She stood on her hind feet then turned and ran. She must have felt she was over powered and didn't want anything to do with us.
As she left the two of us breathed a sigh of relief and got all the meat into the float plane. We waited with guns loaded for the pilot to come back. He and a friend had gone around the mountain to do some hunting.
While we were frightened by those bears that day, they were more frightened by us and they didn't think they could take us on. We sometimes get ourselves into situations where we cannot see anyway out. We do not know what to do about the situation, or how to handle it. Faith is what enables us to believe God regardless of whether we can see a way out or not.
There are times we will not see the we have the resources to handle our issue. Our ability to remember that there is no issue or mountain that God is not able to solve or move out of the way. One thing we can be assured of, is that if God is for us, He is more than all of the world or anything can bring against us. This enables us to have peace of mind. God may never show us the mountain full of "horses and chariots of fire all around us," but we can know that He is always there.
Rest on His power and His love for us. GREATER IS HE
