JUST ASK!
Matthew 7:7-8
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”
It was the third day of deer season and Linda had seen some small bucks, but nothing she really wanted to harvest yet. There was one buck that was on camera a month earlier on an adjoining property that was bigger than anything she had taken at the time. She loved the looks of him and hoped that he might show up… she was holding out. As the beautiful afternoon played out she prayed, praising God for the wonderful day, the amazing scenery and all the blessings that he had given her. Then she began to pray with a request.
She prayed, “Lord, You tell us to ask for what we want, within Your will, and if we ask You will give it to us. Lord, I would love to harvest that big buck that I have been thinking about and if I do, I will share the story with all those around that will listen and give You all the glory.” The she prayed specifics… where he would come out into the field, how he would come out, calmly, as well that she would be alerted to him coming, etc…
Then she sat back and waited… Within a short time she heard a load cracking sound behind her stand and 20 minutes later it was off to her right. Then she saw movement to her left and there coming into the field was a deer. She lifted her binoculars and there was THE buck she had prayed for. He came out calmly and stood still in front of her in the field.
God had answered her prayers and Linda has kept up her part of the bargain… She has told everyone that will listen that God answered her prayers in an amazing way, exactly as she had asked. Why do we doubt?
I wonder how many times in our lives we miss out on great opportunities or blessing from another... Because we didn't ask. God gives us the greatest gift of all, eternal life with Him. This is totally a gift and we have to do nothing, just let Him give it and accept it in faith. The other blessings in the life that are God given, sometimes need to be asked for. As the verses say ASK, SEEK, KNOCK. Not hard to do, but an action is required.
James 4:2-3
You lust and do not have, so you commit murder. And you are envious and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask with the wrong motives, so that you may spend what you request on your pleasures. (James 4:2-3)
Think of it like this... What a great pleasure it is when one of our kids or grandkids crawls up into our laps and asks for something and how when they do it in love… we can't wait to give it to them. God has that same desire... To give us our deepest desires. All we have to do is ask.
