LIKE A ROARING LION
1 Peter 5:8-9
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
One of my favorite, all-time movies is, "Ghosts In The Darkness". I'm not sure why, because I am not usually one for blood and gore and I have no desire to hunt lions. The two stars of that movie are two huge male lions that I associate with these verses. These two lions roamed at night, in the darkness, literally searching for someone to devour.
These verses describe this very thing. But we are called to be sober. Not just sober physically, but spiritually... Prepared to resist satan at every turn. If we "sleep", or doze off in our spiritual life, satan is waiting right there to overtake us.
So prepare yourself, stay spiritually awake, don't convince yourself that you can stray off of God's path just a little ways. Off HIS path is darkness and this darkness is where satan lurks to take us down. Instead, "Resist the devil, and he will flee from you", James 4:7
And finally there is a reward for remaining sober and resisting.
James 1:12 - Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
Watch where you spend your time, who you have close friendships with, where your mind goes when there's no one else around. If you allow satan just a tiny entrance into your life, he will come in and do his best to devour you spiritually.
Remain on alert.
