A MUCH NEEDED REST
Mark 6:31
"Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest."
It was a quick hunt... when we pulled up to shore the buck we peeking over the ridge far above the lake shore. There were giant brown bears all around the area and when a rifle goes off on Kodiak Island, it's like a dinner bell to the local bears.
I hiked up the ridge quickly and when I got there the big blacktail buck took off in a hurry. I threw the rifle up and swung with the buck. The first shot went high... but the second shot was perfect and the bunk went down in a heap.
I quickly got to the buck and started dragging down the mountain. When I got to shore I did a fast job of skinning, quartering and caping and got him in the boat and shoved off. I still had an hour or two to wait for my hunting partners and I didn't want sit with bloody meat where a bear could get me.
Once I pushed off I leaned back and rested. I was worn out and the adrenalin rush from the thought of bears coming after me had me completely exhausted and I couldn't do much more. A good rest.
Ah rest... It seams as though there is never enough of this one thing in life. We struggle through life scratching and clawing and trying to please everyone else, and at the end of one project there awaits another.
Why is it that we fill our time with so many projects and programs that we can't get that much needed rest? Even when we come back from a "vacation" we are worn out. We have computers, tablets, smart phones and more gadgets to save us time yet we have less time every year... Which takes away more time for rest.
Today is Friday, I challenge you to prepare your mind like a Jr higher today. Anticipate the weekend... Get excited for rest. Let your body and more importantly, your mind/heart go to a quiet place.
Take heed to what Jesus said to His disciples, "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest."
We not only need physical rest, we need emotional and spiritual rest as well. Remember that we can't do it all on our own. Allow God to have control of our efforts and time. If we do that He will give us rest.
Psalm 127:1-2
"Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord guards the city, the guard keeps watch in vain. It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives sleep to his beloved."
