STAYING FOCUSED
Proverbs 7:1&5
My son, keep my word, and treasure my commands within you.
5 That they may keep you from the immoral woman, from the seductress who flatters with her words.
Mike was ready... he had spent the last few months working up a load for his .58 caliber muzzleloader. He had practiced over and over again to make sure he could hit a bullseye at 100 yards or more. He focused on the shot. It was probably the only buffalo hunt he would ever take, and he wants to make sure he did a good job.
When the day finally came, Mike and a friend of his arrived and we made a plan. I had been watching the Buffalo and I knew where they would be most morning. We had decided that Mike would get the first shot and then his friend would follow up with a shot on a second buffalo. Mike friend was shooting a 300 Winchester Magnum rifle and had much better range.
We found the heard right after daylight and got ahead of them and waited they got into range and I was kneeling right behind Mike. At 40 yards the big bull hesitated and looked our way. As Mike was squeezing the trigger on his muzzleloader, suddenly his friends rifle broke the silence. The bull Mike was aiming at jumped and Mike lost focus and pulled the trigger before he had settled his sights, causing a very poor shot location.
Over the next two day I tracked that huge bull buffalo over 2.5 miles in snow just over my knees. I had sent Mike ahead to cut him off. 26 hours after Mike's first shot he finished the job and had his buffalo.
We had a great plan, but because of loss of focus, the pla went wrong and it was hard to get back on track.
In a Christian walk we need focus. We can plan and prepare for life. We can do everything right and then something draws our focus off of God and His plan for us, and everything is thrown off course. Out heart loses focus on the Lord and we wonder around without Him for a time.
It's in these times that we need to surround ourselves with strong Christians that will bring us back on track with God. Those that care enough to be honest and love you enough to stick beside you.
Often in life we get lost in places we shouldn't be. If that physically lost, it's always good to have those to call to get you back to where you are supposed to be. If you are spiritually off track, we need to same thing... someone (or more than one) that can get us back to where we should be.
Do you have someone like that?
1 Corinthians 10:12-13
Therefore let the one who thinks he stands watch out that he does not fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you except something common to mankind; and God is faithful, so He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.
