THE SEASONS TO COME
Ecclesiastes 7:8
The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride.
I woke the morning of the 1st of June to a new season. June 1st, it's not the official beginning of summer, no, it is the day after turkey season ended. I woke at the same disgustingly early hour even though there was no reason to do so. My body's internal clock won't adjust for a while. It's a change from one season to the next which has been taking place in the lives of hunters since states put dates on hunting seasons. As one season ends it's a new beginning into another. At this time of the year we begin to see newborn fawns all the time... a new season.
The Bible also speaks of new changes and beginnings in our lives as being seasons. Seasons are symbols for God's perfect timing in delivering us through all the changes He makes in our lives. These certain seasons can bring about the blessings we receive from having been obedient in following him through those changes even if we did not fully understand or welcome them.
As we age and look back at the seasons that the Lord has brought us through, we can see His perfect plan. As we learn to trust Him, we can see that one season has lead into the next in ways that helped us grow and strengthen for the future.
It's like a tree. If a tree doesn't go through the seasons it won't survive. Our trees here in this part of the country have just leafed out as they do every spring. Come fall their colors will change and they will fall to the ground. Over winter the tree will be dormant and come spring, it will start all over again. If this didn't happen through the seasons of the trees life, it would never have a chance to grow and spread it's branches. If this doesn't happen the tree will never be able to plant seeds for the next generation.
This is a great example of God working in our lives. He brings us through times of dormancy and times of flourishing, times of new growth and times of rest and peace. Without these times we don't see God's leading and providence in our lives.
In Galatians 6:9 Paul tells us not to worry about looking for the future or the next season... God has it in control.
9 "And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up."
Keep moving forward. As one season ends, God has to another one ahead. He knows what it takes to grow and flourish and what is waiting ahead for your blessing.
Philippians 1:6 tells us,
" being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
If He's began a good work in you, He will complete it... It will be done in the seasons to come.
