YOUR ADVENTURE AWAITS
Genesis 12:1-3
Now the LORD said to Abram, “Go from your country, And from your relatives And from your father’s house, To the land which I will show you; 2 And I will make you into a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing; 3 And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”
Do you ever long for adventure? To just take off and head out somewhere you have never been before? For some that might consist of a picnic on the banks of a local river or lake and to others, it might consist of a cross country trip to the mountains. For me I find it exciting to go where we’ve never gone before. To explore, hunt or fish where I have never been before. In this 12th chapter of Genesis, God told another one of His followers to leave all that he knew and travel into the unknown.
This morning I am driving to an area I have never hunted. It is exciting for me to explore someplace I’ve never been. It is one of my very favorite things to do.
God called out Abram to “go” and Abram did. There were no motel 6’s (where they leave the lights on for you), no McDonald’s fast food, no cell phones or GPS, Abram, and the few with him, were on their own. But God had a plan. All Abram had (and all he needed) was a promise from the Lord Almighty.
Abram was not venturing into the unknown to fulfill his adventurous spirit, to explore. No, he was obeying what the Lord commanded him to do. God had made him a promise and Abram would soon become Abraham and he would see the reliability of God in his life.
What adventure do you hear God calling you to take, for His sake and His glory? We can trust God that if God us a task on your heart, He will provide everything we need to get the job done. God wants to use people like you and me to accomplish His tasks. He doesn’t need us, He wants us to come along side Him, to rest on His promise to us, like He promised Abram to make a great nation from him.
