"AIM SMALL, MISS SMALL"

Philippians 3:12-14

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

I love to shoot traditional archery gear. It is truly an art form. I can walk through the woods and pick out a leaf or a twig on the ground at 30-50 yards and hit it most every time. Now put a full grown deer at that same distance and I will miss it most of the time... Why, because I'm shooting at the entire deer, not at some as small as a twig.

I have a good friend that is a very good shot with his archery equipment. He can set up a target anywhere from 15 to 75 yards and keep his arrows in the center. He is always using the phrase, "aim small, miss small" and it works for him. This saying means that if we don't focus on the small important target we will miss our mark.

This same concept is true in life, if we don't concentrate on what is important we will go off in every direction, not doing what we should be doing.

Deuteronomy 7:6 says that we are a holy people. No one can be holy on their own, but if we "aim small" and strive towards holiness, we become better and better all the time. Verse 6...

"For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth

Again, we can never attain holiness without a trust in Christ as our Savior. But once we have that relationship, we are then holy in God's eyes... But we will still struggle in our own hearts and lives.

So strive to be holy... Like in archery, the more you practice the better you will be.
