BLIZZARDS OF LIFE
Ephesians 3:20
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,
I sat staring at the sidehill , 250 yards across the valley. A buck had gone into a plumb thicket right after daybreak and hadn't come out again. Now the soft rain of the early morning had turned to sleet and snow and it was blowing horizontally. No other deer moved all morning and finally at noon, as I was covered in snow and ice, I gave it up and went to the truck to warm up.
This morning I checked the weather and we have a blizzard coming. 8" of snow and 40 mph wind gusts. It reminded me of that morning of hunting years ago. I've decided that I no longer wish to be outside in the snow, wind and cold. What was fun ad a kid... not so much anymore.
If most people were given the option between standing in the sub zero snow squalls or climbing in a warm vehicle... they would choose the vehicle. Yet we often refuse a safe refuge even in the emotional and physical blizzards of life. The terrible storms of this world can blow us right off of our feet. Why is that we so often find ourselves running directly into the storm and away from the protection of an all-loving God?
When we make the decision to not choose God, we also walk away from His goodness and His blessings. When we turn away from His loving outstretched arms, we run away from the protection and warmth He longs to give us.
We need to realize that God gives all the protection we need as we face the blizzards of life. Run to Him instead of away from Him. No matter how hard we try, we can't handle all the storms we face. No matter how much we try, the power of the winds and storms will overtake us.
Matthew 19:26 tells us why we run to God when we come to something we can't do on our own. One if my best friends recently told me, "I can't change how I feel". And on his own, that is true. But listen to what Jesus told His disciples about an impossible situation.
And looking at them, Jesus said to them, "With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." (Matthew 19:26)
