BREASTPLATE OF FAITH

Exodus 3:10-11

"Therefore, come now, and I will send you to Pharaoh, so that you may bring My people, the sons of Israel, out of Egypt." 11 But Moses said to God, "Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?"

Back in December we flew to Spokane for our grandson's wedding. Stepping on the plane, I questioned how this little tube of aluminum could possibly hold several tons of passengers, luggage and other weighty stuff. It just doesn't make sense that something so heavy can defy the laws of gravity and stay in the air. Yet it does and 100's of 1000's of people every day put their faith and trust in the airlines that they will get to their destination.

It reminded me of the bumble bees. As a kid, my best friend Jeff and I would fill Mason jars with bumble bees from the apple blossoms in his back yard. We would watch them hover on the blossoms and then capture them in the jar where we would study them more closely. These fat little insects are a true example of what looks like a breaker of all laws of nature. Looking at them you can see that the size of their wings could in no way hold up their chubby little bodies, but they do.

God commands the robust little bees to fly and they don't even question it, they just do it. They have no trust issues, they don't consider whether or not they have the ability to do it. Oh to have the faith of that round little guy. To not consider if we can do the improbable or seeming impossible tasks in life would set us free.

God told Moses to be the leader of His cherished people and bring them out of the slavery that they had been living in. What did Moses do? He said, "not me, I can't do it". This is the same Moses that was saved from death as an infant and brought up in luxury, and Moses spared when he killed the Egyptian... he now doubted the God that did all this.

Even though Moses had been shown amazing things, he doubted what God could do through him. And this when God had spoken directly to him to call him to service.

God Calls us each to step out in faith at times. He expects all of us to serve in some way. He wants us to trust and obey. We should not be in doubt of what He can do. If we didn't have the power of God carrying us, we could do nothing... but scriptures tell us, "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me". Philippians 4:13

In 1 Thessalonians 5:8, the Apostle Paul tells us to "put on the breastplate of faith"... what does the breastplate do? It protects our heart from the attacks of the enemy. One of the ways that the enemy attacks our heart is through doubt. Don't allow the enemy to drive a spear of doubt through your heart.

Remember, the same God that raise Jesus from the dead... that same power, is available to you and I whenever we call on Him. (1 Thessalonians 5:8)

But since we are of the day, let's be [sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation.

Protect your heart with the breastplate of faIth... a faith in God and what He can do with and through you
