Carrying Burdens

Galatians 6:2

Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

We had hunted up hill all morning.  It would have been extremely rough, except that we were into elk since daylight.  Now, here we were standing over a 6x6 bull and getting ready to begin butchering and packing.

I called back to camp and told them we had a bull down.  A few moments later the radio beeped and it was one of the guides said, "Micah and I are on our way to help".  What a blessing.

Micah, my grandson was about 10 years old and I thought he was just coming along for a walk.  But he insisted he was going to do his share.  We put two elk backstraps and two tenderloins in his daypack and he carried two elk antlers I found... and he packed them off the mountain.

While guiding in the mountains I have had many occasions to pick up and carry my guests pack for them.  (Not really a big deal)... But it freed them up to better do what they were there to do.

In the same way, as we carry the burden of someone, we free them up to be/do what they are called to be/do.  AND, we are fulfilling Christ's law.  Which is...

Galatians 5:14

For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."

And Matthew 22:39 says,

And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'

So by carrying the burden of someone else, you are fulfilling what we are commanded to do and both parties will be blessed.

One more thing... And it ain't easy...

Matthew 5:43-45 makes this tougher...

"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 44 But I tell you, LOVE your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven.

So carry a burden whenever possible for those around you... It will bless them and you.  And it will draw you closer to the Lord.
