DAMAGED ARMOR

Ephesians 6:11
Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

My very first rifle I owned was a Ruger M77.  I bought it new when I was in high-school and I cherished and protected it.  I polished it each time I  put it away after a hunt.  The  one day when I was walking on ice I slipped and fell and put two long scratches in the stock... I was devastated.  There are several more scratches in that gun and each holds a special memory.  Every one of them shows that the rifle has been put to good use over  last 45 years.  If it still looked shiny and new, it wouldn't tell the same stories.

The verse above, and the few that come after,  talk about the armor that God gives us to combat satan.  We sometimes picture this as new, smooth and shiny.  But this armor has been into battle.  It is going to be dented, beaten on, scratched and scared.  God tells us that trials and attacks will come and we need to be prepared.  If we are not facing these attacks, our armor won't look like we've been to battle.  If this is the case, then we need to consider if we are on God's battlefield or not.

Recently I read this little saying.  It makes a lot of sense when we talk of the spiritual battlefield.

"Show me a Knight in shining armor, and I will show you a man that has not yet had his metal truly tested."

How's your armor?  Is it in need of some polishing, some dent removal and some reinforcement?  Ephesians 6 is all about the need for armor, the armor is only needed if we are in Gods army.  If there are no dents or other damage, then consider  where your elegance is.  Does it need repair?   Good it shows that you've been at war.  If it is still shiny, get in the battle.
