OPEN HANDS

2 Timothy 6:6-7
"There is great gain in godliness combined with contentment; for we brought nothing into the world, so we can take nothing out of it."

This morning as I looked through some old Facebook memories I came across a photo of our grandson.  Micah loved to stand with birdseed in his hands and attempt to feed little chickadees from his open hands.  One day we were working in the woods after hunting season and there were a lot of chickadees flitting back and forth eating corn off the ground.  Micah put some in his hand and patiently waited for one of the tiny birds to land and eat.  I watch as birds would come close and fly off.

Eventually a few would land for a second and be gone again.  I saw that Micah had more plans than to just feed the birds, he was trying to catch one in his hands as well.  He tried over and over again, but they were too quick.  They kept coming back until one time he closed his hands fast and he ended up with a handful of white and black feathers... but no bird.  Then they were done, they quit landing in his hands, they had had enough.

God blesses all of us... Sometimes in different ways and different levels.  But He has a desire to see all of us that are part of His family have His blessings.

A while back I had a great time visiting with some good friends and hunting partners.  One of the friends is far wealthier than I am, if you count finances...  in the conversation he told me how he felt that Linda and I are extremely wealthy.   Now he understood that we are in a life of ministry and the bank balance would prove that... He went on and explained how he sees us as having an amazing life and far wealthier than himself.

It's true that God has blessed us with opportunities to have friends all over the world and opportunities to visit and sometimes hunt many places for many things.  We get to travel and speak to groups and make new friends day after day, week after week, year after year.   And although our tax forms show little income our amazing God continues to bless us over and over again.

I told this friend that I have learned to hold these blessings with open hands.  It's like feeding those chickadees, God will put things in my hands and He can take them out.  I believe that as soon as I close my hand around one of these blessing and try to grasp it, as if I own it, God could take it away.

Always keep your hand open when dealing with God's blessings.  Even when he takes one out, we can be assured He will either make us content with what we still have or He will replace it with a new blessing.

Keep your hands and your heart open.
