DON'T DISCOUNT GOD

Romans 11:36
For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen.

It had been a long climb.  We had started at the valley bottom at daylight and now the sun was up and I was breathing heavily.  We wanted to get up onto a high bench and sneak into the edge of the bedding area for the herd of elk that had been living there.

A couple hundred yards below the bench and I needed a break.  I stopped where my hunter and I could see up and down the draw.  We hadn't been stopped for more than a few seconds, when we heard a twig snap and a couple cows and a calf just sauntered by us.  We didn't get a bull that day, but when we got back to camp my hunter said to the others, "Dean was amazing, he knew right where to stop to see those elk."

I instantly responded with a laugh and a comment of, "that wasn't planned." Although I had stopped in a good place to see the draw, and maybe I was showing a little false humility at the time.

My dad overheard the conversation and later pulled me aside and told me to graciously accept the compliment.  He said, "You're a very good elk guide all someone yo compliment you and give God the glory for your abilities.

Dad was right about where to give the glory.  All too often we show too much humility... I know, we can never really show too much humility, but, while we need to be humble, we should praise and exalt Him and point others to Him for His glory not our own.

I love the song, "How Deep the Father's Love for Us":
I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom.
But I will boast in Jesus Christ,
His death and resurrection.

All the glory to God
