TRUE NORTH
Romans 8:28
And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
This verse doesn't promise that all things will be easy for those who love God. However, they promise that they will "work together for good" and for His glory.
In the outdoors today we can use some amazing tools like ONX for mapping our moving forward on the water or in the woods. You can navigate on the water or inland, even at night and know what to expect to be laying ahead of you.
One night on Dogtooth Lake in NE Ontario I was bringing bear hunters back to camp by boat. It was well after dark and we were navigating by memory and by feel. I believed I was in the middle of the lake and was safe from any obstacles and islands. Suddenly, while I was running the boat at 40 mph, I saw something white on the water just 20 ft in front of the boat. I panicked and braced for impact.
Thankfully, Thankfully what I saw was a spooked flock of ducks raising off the surface of the lake. The best of devices soundly detect those in our path.
There is a line in the movie LINCOLN where Abraham Lincoln says,
"A compass, I learnt when I was surveying, it'll point you True North from where you're standing, but it's got no advice about the swamps and dessert and chasm that you'll encounter along the way. If in pursuit of your destination, you plunge ahead, heedless of obstacles, and achieve nothing more than to sink in a swamp... What's the use of knowing True North?"
This is a great line that is true in human thinking. However, in a life where God is allowed to fill us and we are loving and trusting Him, we need not worry about the swamps, desserts and chasms of life. God will get us through them. And, if we trust Him to do so, we will be blessed each time we come out of one of them and HE will be glorified.
This is only true if we are filled with a love for God and that we have that personal relationship with Him.
Allow God to direct your *compass" in life and His "true north" will always be reachable, with Him as our guide.
