GIVING YOUR ALL

Ruth 2:20
"That man is our close relative; he is one of our guardian-redeemers," she exclaimed.

Scott was home on leave from his service in Iraq and Afghanistan.  He had recently been in on the rescue of Jessica Lynch from the hospital in Iran.  He had also in with other marines as they crawled through tunnels in the mountains of Afghanistan, long before the USA had sent in 1,000s od soldiers to remove and destroy the taliban there.

When I heard that Scott,  my cousin, would be home in Nov, I asked if he would like to join us at camp for a deer hunt.  He was excited to say "yes" as he had never really had a good hunting camp experience.

Scott showed up ready to harvest his first good whitetail buck, but the first couple of days were slow and he never saw a good buck.  Another friend, Dan, that was hunting with us asked if I was OK with his giving up his spot for Scott.  It was a great and loving and selfless gesture and I agreed.

The next day, around noon Scott drove back into camp.  I was shocked to see him back so soon and disappointed that he hadn't stuck it out longer.  But my disappointment turned to elation when he opened the back of his truck to show us the beautiful 8 point buck he had harvested.  That evening was a great time of celebration, rejoicing with Scott on his well deserved reward.

The book of Ruth, in the Old Testament is a short 4 chapters that tell the story of love, care and redemption.  Naomi had lost her husband and two sons and was left with her daughter-in-laws.  She left their home and moved back to Bethlehem.  Ruth, one of her daughter-in-laws, loved Ruth very much and remained with her.

The entire book in a mirror of how Jesus loves and redeemed His children, as well as an example of how we are to love and care for each other.  Naomi's love and care for Ruth, Ruth's love and concern for Naomi and the Love and dedication of Boaz for both Ruth and Naomi are all something that you and I should emulate in our walk in life.

I challenge you to read the Book of Ruth.  It is one of the most beautiful loves stories you will ever read.

That deer season was Scott's last to hunt.  Soon after leaving camp the Dr's found a small spot on the back of his neck.  Scott didn't make it to the next season.  He passed away and was buried, with honor, in the Arlington national Cemetery.

He also showed the love of Ruth, Naomi and Boaz, as he gave his all for his brothers and sisters in Marines and for the American people.
