GOD DEPENDENT
Matthew 6:25-26
Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
Wolves in much of the country are a controversial species and the reintroduction of wolves and the lack of management of their population will bring fights among sportsmen everywhere. Wolves have a place in the wild, but they must be managed.
One thing that you can say about wolves is they know how to take care if their young. The mothers work hard to deliver food to the young pups and teaches them how to hunt, until they are old enough to do it on their own.
Like this, young children in our country are rarely concerned about what they are going to eat. They just have to run to their parent saying, "I'm hungry." Since a baby, they have had their meals provided. They would never worry about how much something costs or how long it takes to prepare it. They simply trust that the parent who has always faithfully fed them will continue to do so.
I believe that one of the reasons that Bible refers to Christians as servants is because of the way that servants were totally dependant on their masters. They have no food unless the master provides. They do not work unless the master directs. It is a relationship of complete reliance and trust where the servant trusts the master with his life.
How often do we stress over our finances, available time or health. When we put all our trust in God and depend on Him like a child or slave, we no longer need to worry. That is what Jesus was trying to communicate to his followers in Matthew 6.
Jesus knew that we would worry and so He calls His disciples to trust that the same God who saved them and gave them eternal life will also give them everything else that they need. Knowing that God gave us His One and Only Son, Jesus, should give us complete confidence that our "Master" cares deeply for our needs.
In today's world we hear and read of how we need to be Self-dependant. However, self-dependency creates worry. It means that we alone are responsible for every aspect of our lives. When we submit to God, we say that we trust in His complete faithfulness. God has already given us His very best. We have no reason to doubt His faithfulness in the smaller things.
If we doubt this, read Romans 8:32 very carefully.
"He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all–how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?" (Rom 8:32)
Become "God-dependant" not "Self-dependant".
