HEALING THE BROKEN PIECES
Psalm 51:1-3
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.
2023 is about past and 2024 is on us. 2023 was one of the most challenging years of my life. Two hip surgeries, cancer and cancer treatments, lung problems... it's been challenging to say the least. Then put the great challenge on learning how to do radio show interviews, recordings, editing and production. And in the middle of all of the medical issues putting out 52 new programs. How is that all possible, only by the hand of God.
My body is bouncing back and healing. They tell me that in the next few weeks my hip will heal stronger than it had ever been. They tell me I can climb mountains again if I want to. Hiking and running are not a problem. It amazes me to think that something so broken and painful will be that much stronger and healed.
Our spirit is just like our body... When we are broken and willing to be repaired, the master healer makes us much stronger. When we allow Him to oversee the healing process we are stronger and won't break in that same place again... if we follow what He has instructed us to do to maintain an unbroken life.
This was true of King David. In the Psalm 51 passage David was crying out to God to forgive and heal him. His life was in pieces because of his sin. He gave them all over to God and God took them and healed David. This isn't to say that David never sinned again. But, the pattern of David's sin that he confessed to God and was broken over never consumed him again. God had healed the broken pieces and David was stronger because of it.
In Jeremiah 17:14 the writer cries out to God to fix his broken life.
"Heal me, LORD, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise."
When God heals us spiritually, we are permanently healed. This will only happen if we allow Him to totally fill the void that was left when we became broken. We can't hold back parts of our brokenness or sin from God. If we are not allowing God to completely fill the void we will eventually break from the sin again. We must be totally committed to allowing God to fix us and fill us.
We are all broken people. Romans 3:23 makes that clear. We are all sinners and have fallen short of God's glory. We start the healing process when we confess our sins as David did in Psalm 51. Then when we've confessed, God will heal the broken pieces of our life. (1 John 1:9)
Are you broken over a sin issue? Give all your broken pieces to God. Don't hold any back or the healing will not be complete. Allow Him to put the pieces back together and make you whole and strong again.
