HOPE AT THE END OF THE LINE

Revelation 21:4
"... He will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more."

One of my favorite outdoor movies has to be, "A River Runs Through It".  Not because of the story of a life wasted, but because of the pure art of fly fishing.  There's something special about casting a fly line.

There's an old quote by John Buchan.  He wrote,
"The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope."

Every time we cast a fly onto the surface of a stream or lake, it is another occasion for hope... hope that a trout will rise to the fly, and I will feel the weight against the rod and land a beautiful piece of God's creation.

All fishing is a continual act of hope.  It's a wonderful hope and it doesn't really matter if you are a 8 year old with a cane pole that has a hook, bobber and angle worms or you are casting an expensive Orvis fly rod.

But there is a far greater hope... a different kind of hope all together.  Our fishing hope is this, "I hope I land a monster trout my next time I'm out on the river."

When used in this way, what we're really talking about is wishful thinking. What we hope for, may happen, or it may not.

However the true hope is so much more.  As believers in Jesus Christ and what He did on our behalf, we live in the hope... a confident expectation...that the day will come when Revelation 21:4 will play out in this world.

As people of true hope we wait for that day to come with confident expectation.  And we wait like the fly fisherman that continues his quest cast after cast, never quitting until the quest is complete.

Don't stop hoping, Christ will one day soon return for His bride, the Church and He will bring us home for all eternity.
