LIGHTEN THE LOAD
Psalm 32:1-5 Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. 2 Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit. 3 When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. 4 For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. 5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin.
The bulls were bugling furiously a few hundred yards above us on the mountain. That distance doesn’t sound like much… but when you are at 11 thousand feet elevation and it's a steep mountainside, then add in the 50 pounds in your back pack… it’s tough.
When we finally caught up with the elk it was nearing dark and as they moved off towards their evening feeding we were too tired to keep up. We slowly hiked back off the mountain where we could drop our packs and get some much needed rest.
Guiding in the mountains or hunting the back country can be a strenuous effort. You have to be prepared but you have to go in as light as possible as well. Extra weight slows a body down, tires a hunter out and decreases his or her effectiveness on the hunt.
A Christian that is trekking through life also needs to get rid of the things that are weighing him or her down. One of the biggest burdens is guilt. The enemy, satan, wants us to carry it, to feel guilty. But carrying guilt is like throwing a heavy rock in your back pack while hiking... It wears you out and makes you ineffective in our walk. It takes the effective prayer warrior and makes them ineffective.
There's an old saying, "You wear guilt Like shackles on your feet, Like a halo in reverse."
Allow God to remove the shackles, to lighten the load. 1 Peter 5:7 gives us the OK to lighten the load,
"Cast all your burdens on Him because we know that He cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7)
There is no need for any of us to carry a burden of guilt. When Christ came, died and rose again it removed all guilt. On the cross Christ took all of our guilt on Himself. You are free. The weight is gone.
