A MUCH NEEDED REST...
Genesis 2:1-3
1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. 2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
We had pushed hard all morning. We had been on elk since daylight, getting closer several times, just to have them move off again. We went up and down the mountain a couple times and finally ended up on the backside at the bottom. We needed to climb all the way back to the top a mile and a half away a 1500 feet up.
After several pauses, while getting up the mountain, the 3 of us finally got to the small two track road but we were still a mile from the truck. My hunter and I sat in the woods and wait while the 18 year old "apprentice guide" walked back down to get the truck. I badly needed to rest to rebuild some strength before moving on.
While I physically needed a rest that day, I've often wondered why an "all powerful" God would need to rest. Certainly not from being tire as I had been tired. The original word translates not to rest but to "cease". But many believe that the verse was written as an example to us.
The original 7th day was the Sabbath under old testament law (Which we are no longer under). A complete day of rest. Our bodies and our minds need rest. God designed us to need " down time". A time for "recreation". Look closer at this word... Re-Creation. Its a time that God can re-create our strength, physically, emotionally and spiritually. He will use a time to build us back up.
So don't allow yourself to become so worn down physically and emotionally to a low point. It's at these points when satan finds cracks in our armor to attack us spiritually. Take some time to rest and re-create. Without that time we eventually break down and are of no use. Eventually anyone or anything, without proper rest breaks down. We may not see it on the outside for a long time.... But internally things start to fail.
Matthew 11:28-30
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
Stop, allow God to give you rest and to rebuild what He needs in you. Don't just rebuild physically during these times of rest and re-creation, but rebuild spiritually as well. God will do amazing things in our lives during these times of... much needed rest.
