NO DARKNESS
1 John 1:5
God is light, in Him is no darkness at all.
We could hear deer moving in the valley below us. We could hear bucks grunting and chasing does and we heard a buck making a scrape and a rub on a nearby tree. However, there wasn’t enough light to see them yet. It was opening morning of deer season in South Dakota, and we knew there were big bucks in the valley, we had an amazing amount of anticipation for daylight to show itself. We struggled to see and even tried our binoculars. Soon we could make out movement down below, but we couldn’t see what it was. By the time daylight finally arrived we were about breathless. It wasn’t long after sunrise that one of the big bucks that we knew lived in the valley crossed below us and Linda harvested a big 10 point buck.
As hunters I believe that we all love twilight. It's that special time between dark and light when our imagination can run wild. If you are deer hunting the morning twilight is a time of heart pounding anticipation where every rustle of the leaves raises your heart rate by 100%. The evening twilight brings a hope that the next second will be better than the last. Just thinking about that makes me want to be in a deer stand.
With God there is no darkness, no shadow, no twilight. God is like the flame of a candle, you can the flame but when another light shines it leaves no shadow, it's pure light. He is pure light and pure good.
There is also no twilight with God. We've all heard of the twilight years of life. It's the time when our life is winding down. Those that have the hope and assurance of an everlasting life through their faith in Christ and what He did for them, don't have to worry about life winding down. When our last breath is taken here on earth, we are instantly transformed to a new body… an eternal life in Heaven.
So the next time someone sadly talks about the twilight of their life, share with them the assurance of a life based on the gift God gave each of us, eternal life. All we have to do is accept that gift.
Charles Spurgeon spoke of death and the difference there is between the forgiven person and those that never accepted Christ's forgiveness for sin...
"There is an essential difference between the decease of the godly and the death of the ungodly. Death comes to the ungodly man as a penal infliction, but to the righteous as a summons to his Father's palace. To the sinner it is an execution, to the saint an undressing from his sins and infirmities. Death to the wicked is the King of terrors. Death to the saint is the end of terrors, the commencement of glory."
John 6:40
For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”
In God there is only light and life, without Him there is death and darkness... It would seem a simple choice.
