STAND FIRM AND ALLOW GOD THE VICTORY

Exodus 14:14

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

As a young turkey hunter I was on the run all the time. If I made up my mind to hunt a specific location and heard a turkey gobble far off in the distance, I was moving to it quickly. Often I would get way off from where I started and back where I began there would be more birds gobbling. I ran myself raggedy at times.

My friend and Christian brother Paul, in Indiana, told me how He generally hunts turkeys. He generally scouts and knows where the birds will pass by… then he sets up there and waits and calls. He’s faithful that it’s going to happen and is patient to see it work and he's successful.

So often in life we find ourselves in trouble because we’re not patient in allowing what we know is right to work itself out. Often, like my turkey hunting, we start trying too hard instead of having faith that what we know to be good and true will work out. We attempt to do it all on our own. Why do we do this when we know we have an all powerful God that can take care of our struggles for us?

In Exodus 14 we read where the Israelites we're trapped between the desert and the Red Sea and the Egyptians were closing in fast. The Israelites were frightened and sure that they were about to be killed right there in the desert. They complained to Moses and began to panic. I can picture them, running back and forth frantically trying to figure out what they were going to do. Here came all of Egypt’s chariots, closing in on them…. They were trapped and in their eyes, it looked hopeless.

In verse 13 Moses tells them, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today."

Two things are written in verses 13 and 14 of chapter 14… “You need only be still” and “stand firm”. Then Moses gave them this promise… if you will be still and stand firm, “you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today."

God had told Moses that He was going to take care of His people. He would be glorified through this seemingly hopeless situation. In the end the Israelites escaped and every single one of the Egyptians died.

What overwhelming situation are you facing today? Remember Moses words in Exodus 14:14

"The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

And Psalm 46:10 reminds us.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
