STAY ON HIGH ALERT
1 Peter 5:8-9
Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 So resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brothers and sisters who are in the world.
It was the danger of my own elk hunt and we were on a ranch south of Steam Boat Springs, Colorado. While the friends that were hunting with me explored the south side of the mountain, I went around the west end of the ranch and began climbing up the NW side of the mountain.
I climbed slowly that morning, exploring the area, looking for sign more than elk. Late in the morning I hadn't seen or heard any elk and I decided to stop on a small knob and rest and do some blind calling into two draws leading up from the valley behind the ranch.
I called for 15 minutes or so and then sat and listened for another half hour. I ate the small lunch I had in my pack and then stood to continue climbing. As I stood and turned to leave I caught movement 30 yards behind and above me. There staring down at me was a 5x5 bull elk looking g just as surprised as I was. He turned and in one jump he was gone he had snuck in from the one direction I had least expected and had no paid attention
As I read them verse above it reminded me of the movie, GHOSTS IN THE DARKNESS. The lions in that movie weren't so much interested in frightening those that were in the construction camp... they weren't looking to play with them like a cats plays with a mouse. No, they were there to kill the men working there, then tearing them to ribbons.
So often we get a little tired of watching for satan and his evil ways. We haven't been under attack for a while and we think that everything is fine... there's nothing wrong with the world. It's then that satan and his demons sneak up behind us, like the elk did to me on the mountain. The difference is satan is there to destroy and devour us.
We need to remember something every important. While the devil is vicious, he cannot be victorious, if you and I have accepted Jesus Christ's gift, we have everything you need to defeat him.
We don't have to continue to live with feeling powerless shaking in fear. Satan has ready been defeated and with him knowing that he is defeated he's going to take every single person with him into an eternity in he'll.
Most of us will never have lions regularly coming into our camps and homes to physically devour us, we do have daily encounters with the satan. And just like the lion's in the movie, they were only dangerous until the professional hunter put an end to them.
What we need to remember is God power and promises are always a perfect match for our adversaries and our problems. With Him we stand against any enemy.
Romans 8:31
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?
