THOSE THINGS I CAN'T DO
Mark 11:24
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
There is a certain loyalty amongst hunters and fisherman. If they find something that works for them, they stick with it. It's hard to convince them to change their equipment.
My dad fished with one lure when I was a kid. It was called the "Lazy Ike Wiggly Crawler". There was nothing and no one that would or could out fish him when he had the lure tied to his line. That is brand loyalty.
There are no products in the outdoor world with a loyalty bigger than Mathews Archery. God has blessed them in miraculous ways. I have friends, Ben and His dad, David, that are extremely loyal to Mathews bows, they have a new bow every year or two... Why? Because they make great equipment and they are a great company. Ben and David know that they will have one of the best bows made, every time they go on a hunt... and every time they buy a new bow.
What sets them apart? I believe that it is the fact that the owner answered a call to build the best archery equipment in the world. The owner of Mathews Archery, Matt McPherson, set himself on a course of building bows, having built his first compound by the time he was 13 years old. Then in 1992, he invented Solocam technology and there began Mathews Archery.
Matt prayed that God would show him how to make the best bows in the world. One day He prayed, "Lord I love to make bows. I don't know how to make the best bows, but You do. Show me how to make the best bows." Matt has no schooling in engineering, yet somehow he designs the bows himself. He wakes up at night and draws out what God has shown him. That is a heart available and searching for God's leading.
So how do you and I find out what God is wanting to show us? It's quite simple... reading His word and opening our hearts, our eyes and ears to all that God is showing us.
Is it that simple? If we believe God's word, yes, it is. Proverbs 3:5-6 shows us...
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Simple... lean not on my understanding but instead acknowledge God and He will lead me where He wants me.
In a radio interview a few weeks ago with Matt's brother Randy, Randy told me this about his own life and direction.
"God woke me up in the middle of the night and told me, I don't want you to do something you know you can do, I want you to do something that know you can't do, so you can see what I can do."
Randy would love to make bows, but that's not his calling. He went to seminary to pastor... but that wasn't his calling... Randy's calling was to build a business of a line of body shops and God has blessed him. He still owns and runs those body shops... but he also travels and speaks to groups about how God built the world's largest and most successful archery business today, because of his brother's prayer and heart for the Lord.
Will God call us to do those things we know we can't do? I believe He will... often we call it "Getting out of our comfort zone." If we remain in what we are comfortable with, what glory is that to God? We need to allow God to use us in ways that prove He has far more power than we could imagine and He can use us accordingly.
Psalms 37:5 tells us,
"Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this:"
What do we do with this? If we believe God can do all things, why can't He use me? Why can't He use you for His grand purposes. He has us here for a reason, ask Him what He wants of you then get out of His way... keep your eyes open and look to see what He will show you.
