THROWING OFF OUR SINS
Hebrews 12:1-2
Therefore, since we also have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let's rid ourselves of every obstacle and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let's run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking only at Jesus, the originator and perfecter of the faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
My brother Dave was enjoying a beautiful quiet day of elk hunting when the peaceful afternoon was broken by a crashing of limbs and a bellow like he had ever heard before. Just up the mountain 25-30 yards a mature mule deer buck came crashing around a rock outcropping. On the bucks back was the mountain lion hanging on for dear life.
The mule deer bucked like a bronco, doing everything he could to free himself from seemingly certain death. He bucked around in the small opening for a few seconds and then left around the side of the outcropping. Seconds later he walked calmly back out, without the lion on his back. He had successfully thrown the lion off and walked away like nothing happened, although you can be sure there had to be painful scars remaining for quite some time.
This is like our lives so often... we are going g along just fine and we allow a sinful situation to latch on to us. We're maybe in a place, either physically, emotionally or spiritually, we should be and we allow sin to get a hold on us.
When that sin has its sharp claws in us we are stuck. The scripture above says to, "rid ourselves of every obstacle and the sin which so easily entangles us." Sometimes it takes a lot of work and effort to remove the sin gripping us, or had "entangled".
When we find ourselves in a sinful situation we need to fight to get out of it, like our life depends on it. The good news is we don't need to try to buck it off. We just need to confess it and walk away. If we've already confessed Jesus as Lord of our life, He's already paid the price to rid us of that sin. Drop it and walk away.
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous, so that He will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
No need to fight it, just confess it, drop it and walk away, Jesus will take care of the rest.ext here…..
