WHERE ARE YOU
John 6:44
No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.
I wrote some of this a few years back. A few days ago I heard someone whistle and it sounded just like my dad's... it made me remember the importance of the connection of fathers and sons, both earthly and spiritually.
When I was young and I would be in the woods with my dad he would allow me to venture just to the outer edge of his vision area. Sometimes I wasn't sure where he was all the time, but he knew right where I was and kept track my location.
After I became a father of boys and we would venture out to hunt, I would know where they were most of the time. When I wasn't sure of exactly where they were I would become a little concerned. When that happened I would use the same tool that my dad would use.... His whistle.
Dad's whistle had two messages... "where are you" and "come to me". It was a comforting call to me when we were in the woods. There is something about a Father's call, when done in love, that makes us want to run to his arms.
I remember the first time I whistled to my dad... I had just shot my first buck and my dad was down the hill a ways. He also shot a buck within a minute or two of me and I wanted him near me. I was 15 years old and wanted dad's approval. Dad's call meant the world to me.
When lost in woods as a child, dad's whistle meant that I was safe. Close to dark it may have meant the difference between a night inside instead of a cold wet night in the woods. It was a call to come to him and be safe.
As tender, comforting and loving as dad's call was, my Heavenly Father's call is so much better... so much more fulfilling. When I was lost with no way to find my way though life... He called me out of the darkness and saved me.
Genesis 3:9 tells us the story of God's call to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. They had just eaten of the fruit of the tree of good and evil and had brought sin to a perfect world... they didn't know it yet... but they needed their Father to save them.
They didn't go looking for Him. Actually they were hiding from him. But He came looking an called to them.
Genesis 3:9
"Then the LORD God called to the man, and said to him, "Where are you?"
We don't go looking for God in life. He calls us to himself. We are lost and without hope... but He calls us out of our sinful messed up life and if we respond... salvation comes to us right then and there.
What an amazing comfort and hope for those that answer the call. If God is calling you, answer and run to Him. We will never be lost again.
"God called to the man, and said to him, 'Where are you?'"
