WAITING ON THE LORD
Isaiah 40:31
"But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."
The bull elk was coming our way, but he was taking his time. I should have known better but I decided to move closer. When I was crossing a small opening in the middle of spruce and aspen the bull bugled really close. I tried to move quickly to the next group of trees, but he caught me in the wide open and that hunt was over. He stared me down for a moment , then he turned and ran out of my life.
I knew better than to move up on that bull. I knew that I should wait patiently for him to show. But I let my momentary excitement get the best of me and my impatience cost me a trophy.
Two of the hardest tests on the spiritual road are the patience to wait for the right moment and the courage to move forward when the right time comes.
Our life is like this. We have goals and plans and God has given us promises and direction. Moving ahead of God will always cause hardship and disappointment. Consider Abraham, God promised him a son and Abraham and Sarah didn't wait on the Lord... They thought they knew better and the world is paying for their lack of patience and disobedience yet today.
1 Samuel 13:13-14
"You have done a foolish thing," Samuel said. "You have not kept the command the Lord your God gave you; if you had, he would have established your kingdom over Israel for all time. 14 But now your kingdom will not endure; the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart and appointed him ruler of his people, because you have not kept the Lord's command."
Saul, in the scripture above, also didn't wait as he was told and his family line was cut off as the kings of Israel. Now we might not pay that price but if we don't wait on the Lord, it will have huge effects.
Listen to God's word, look for the promises and most importantly, wait on Him.
