FORGIVENESS – ONCE FOR ALL

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

As a kid I had two main passions.  I loved to fish and would spend as much time as possible with a line in the water.  I would ride my bike into Wisconsin and fish a small trout stream in the woods... then sit on the bank at a local lake and watch a bobber.

My other passion was baseball.  I was the first one at the field and the last one to leave.   Today, after hip replacement, arthritis and bursitis in my joints and some other issues... I watch baseball movies to get my fix.

I've always loved baseball movies.  Just watching a baseball movie brings back the feeling of a wooden bat hitting a ball, the smell of a freshly oiled leather glove, the sight of a mowed field and sound of the crowd, yelling encouragement from the stands as I would step to the plate.

I've watched "THE NATURAL" with Robert  Redford many times over the last 25 years .  One line in that movie that strikes me is when Roy Hobbs (Redford) says to his girlfriend, "I guess some mistakes you never stop paying for." That statement can be true and false...  It depends on our choices in life.

For those that have Christ, it is totally true that our sins are forgiven and wiped away.  In this way we don't have to consider paying for those sins over and over again.  They have been paid for once and for all when Christ died for our sins on the cross.

Romans 6:10
The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.

When we have a guilty feeling about our past and feel as though we have to pay for it again and again, remember, that is from Satan.  The devil doesn't want us to live a forgiven life, if he can get us to feel guilty and down about our past and feel as though we have to pay for it over and over again, he can take away the need for a savior in our lives... If we keep having to pay for sins then Christ came for nothing.

Forgiveness does not change the past, but it does change the future for us.  God has let it go, we need to do the same.
