WHY DO WE WORRY?

Matthew 6:25-34
"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
28 "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Many years ago I had two hunters that didn't come back to camp after dark.  I wasn't too concerned until it was two hours after sundown and the December temperatures began to plummet.  I sent one of the guys that helps me at camp while I finished preparing dinner.

An hour later I got a call saying the two men's tracks in the snow headed straight west into the biggest swamp in the area.  Now, I really began to worry... We spent the next 4 hours tracking the two of them and finally, a while after midnight, we found them... cold and tired but doing ok.

What can we change by worrying?  I just made myself miserable  and it didn't change a thing.  Matthew wrote in verse 27, Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?  The answer is clearly no.  And we know that medical science now knows that it can actually take many days, months or even years away from the years God has planned for us.

Looking back now, the worrying didn't change a thing.  I still took action like I would have without worry and the outcome was the same.

We can choose to worry or not to worry...  it's a choice and it's an ability to rely on the one that has everything  under His control.  Why would we choose to worry when we know that the same God that we are choosing not to trust, created the heavens and the earth?  There is nothing impossible  for our God... when we give it all over to Him in prayer He will answer.  It's easier than you think.  Give it up to Him, who truly has total control over all things.
