ARE YOU TRUSTING

John 14:27
Peace I leave you, My peace I give you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, nor fearful.

It was a beautiful afternoon  on the mountain, sunny, warm and calm.  We were hunting a new ridge and  we were moving fast to cover ground to see what might be there.  Myself and my elk hunter were a couple miles from the truck when I felt the air change.  Within minutes the temperatures dropped 20 degrees and continued to drop.  By the time we got back to the truck the lightweight warm weather clothing we were wearing was soaked and the rain had changed to snow.  When we got back to where the road went off the mountain snow was a couple inches deep.

My client and I had climbed in the back of the truck.  The topper kept us dry, but we couldn't see out into the darkness through the snow covered window.  As we started down the mountain, to us in the back we felt like every time the wheels jolted the least little bit , we were sliding off the mountain.  We could only imagine how close we were to dying with each bump.  I looked at my companion and saw him tightly grip the edge of the truck box and there was fear in his eyes.

We arrived at the bottom of the valley safe and sound, but had to drive up the next ridge on switch backs for about two miles.  The whole time the two of us, that couldn't see out,  imagined  what it was going to be like when the truck rolled off the mountain. Finally we made it to camp and  we climbed out of the tail gate and we were so happy to stand on solid ground.

When I asked my brother how close did we come to sliding off the mountain,  he said, the roads were fine, I had it under control the whole time.  I was shocked because in my mind, we were just waiting to die.

That's how it is with life in God's hands.  We worry and fret unnecessarily much of our lives.  Our minds know that there is trouble ahead and we make ourselves sick with the thought of what might happen in the future.  We see the worst of all situations and fear things that are totally under control.

For some this is normal life, but it doesn't have to be.  Isaiah 41:10 tells us,
"Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will also help you, I will also uphold you with My righteous right hand."

Is it sin to worry and fret?  Some might say that "it depends"...  "it depends on the seriousness of the situation"...  "it depends if it's my children"... "it depends".

God's word says, Proverbs 3:5-6
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight."

Are you trusting or worrying?
