HE HAS CONTROL
Acts 27:18-20
We took such a violent battering from the storm that the next day they began to throw the cargo overboard. 19 On the third day, they threw the ship's tackle overboard with their own hands. 20 When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days and the storm continued raging, we finally gave up all hope of being saved.
Have you ever been in a storm so bad that it seemed like you might not survive? Like there was no hope? It is a terrible feeling.
Quite a few years ago I was hunting along the Missouri River on a beautiful November afternoon. It was sunny and warm, but that was all about to change. Mid afternoon brought strong north winds and rain. Then the rain turned to snow and the winds howled. I was supposed to be down there until dark, but my friend Bob showed up and said, "we need to go now or we'll never make it out of here."
From where we were we needed to drive truck trails up over a mile to the roads on top of the river breaks above. The roads were very narrow cut into the hillsides and there were switchbacks that dropped a couple hundred feet on the sides of the trails. I feared for my life at each turn. I didn't relax until we get to blacktop roads on top.
God brought us safely through the storm that day, as He eventually brought the Apostle Paul through the "storm" in the scripture from Acts. But, it was not without first testing our faith in Him.
There are many storms in life that we face on a yearly, monthly, weekly or even dayly basis... We wonder how we can possibly get through them without perishing in the process. But God sees our peril and knows what we are going through. We are never alone. He has control of the storms of our life.
In the book of Mark chapter 4 verse 39 we can read of another storm that was completely under Christ's control. He had been sleeping in the boat when the others woke Him to show Him the danger that they were all in... "He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Peace! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm." (Mark 4:39)
We need to realize that no matter what storms we face in this new year, if we give God control over it, He can calm it. Trust that He has control of all our storms.
