SPIRITUAL WEATHERVANES
Isaiah 40:3
A voice of one calling: "In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God."
A few years back we hunted turkeys a couple springs in a row hunt in Eastern Minnesota, as far eastern as possible. One east side of the property is a bluff looking straight down into the Mississippi River. Each year we would make a stop at one place, it's a 20 ft high silver pole right on the edge of the bluff. On top of that pole is a crudely shaped metal fish that swivels with the wind.
This fish is really a very rustic, roughly built wind vein. While there really not anything special about this fish, it's not attractive, it doesn't have any historical meaning that I know of, but it is serving a mission. The only job that this fish has is to point towards the wind. The fisherman on the mighty Mississippi River below can look up on that bluff and see the wind direction.
The other day I was having dinner with some friends and explained that I believe that we only have one main purpose in this life. For those that have come to Christ, our main job is to point others towards the source of our power and the One that sets our direction, Jesus Christ.
If Christ didn't fully expect us to point others to Him, why wouldn't he take us home as soon as we accept His gift? Like John the Baptist who was only here to point others towards Christ and like the wind vein fish, our job is to point others to where our power is coming from.
We can do that in many ways and I feel that if we are not doing it with our lives and our tongues, we are missing out on major blessings from God's own hand.
How are you doing today? Are others seeing a Christ that they can't live without because of your life and your testimony? Is the wind vein of your life continually pointing to Him? The one that gives us our power and our direction. If not, check your life and make sure that you are lined up with the power that is supplied by Jesus!
